KNOW THYSELF | THE GAME OF SELF DISCOVERY

Ad – review. We were sent Know Thyself expanded edition for review purposes and all thoughts are my own.

Know Thyself is a game of self discovery and is the most revealing personality game. It's a game that brings you closer to the people you care about by tearing down those masks and sparking the deepest conversations. It's not like other games that have conversation cards with questions like 'what are your deepest fears?' It digs deeper with  depth cards and archetype cards that spark conversations that explore how you see yourself and how others see you.

The game is for 2-4 players and is designed to speak to different types of people. The game is ideal for date nights, dinner parties and get togethers with family and friends (18+). The standard edition is the core experience of Know Thyself which includes the full base game. Inside the box you will find:

  • 54 Archetype Cards - each representing a universal facet of the human character.
  • 44 Depth Cards - Question prompts to elicit deeper insight into player personalities.
  • Reversible Game Board – Two sides, supporting 2–4 players and two distinct playing styles
  • 4 Resonance Dials – Custom score wheels to track alignment between players
  • Pledge Card – A solemn pre-game promise
  • Book of Rules
  • Scorepad & Pen – To record points and track progress

The extended edition includes the above plus  expansion packs which include the following extra cards :

  • Zodiac Pack
  • Enneagram Edition
  • Pandora’s Box
  • Philosopher’s Kit

Please note: To reduce waste, all 4 Expansion Packs come in 2 double-sided boxes.

The game rules are easy to understand. To start you put your phones away as this is an hour of person to person communication with the digital world sealed away. Before you play all players take the pledge - a mutual promise to engage with honesty, respect, and curiosity for the conversations to come.

A full game is 12 rounds, although you are welcome to complete as many as you wish. Each round starts with a player selecting a depth card. Depth cards don’t feature surface-level questions, they're meticulously curated prompts designed to move past small talk and explore a person's true character.

Next an archetype card is then picked, there are over 100 archetypes that each represent a different side of the human psyche. The below card for example that was picked is "perfectionist". The next step is where you make secret votes on the dials rating how strongly you feel the archetype reflects you. Then you do the same for the other player/s.  Then comes the reveal where perspectives are exposed and colide. For example "I gave you a 5 because.... "
This gives a whole new perspective to thoughts and feelings.

My husband and I played a full 12 rounds and really enjoyed how it sparked such meaningful conversations. It's definitely a unique game that enables deeper connections but also gets us to focus and look deeper into our ownselves and our personality traits. It was interesting to see how similar we scored at times and different as well. We definitely noticed some surprising insights and clarity that we weren't expecting. We definitely came away feeling like the other really saw us as a person. I definitely think it's a must game to have to get people together and a way to have honest conversations in a fun way where you dont feel that talking about yourself is being invasive or self-absorbed. The game replaces small talk with enriching conversation.
