Being an active member of the community shows your child the importance of taking care of those around you. It also gives them a sense of connection and belonging when growing up, helping them with their confidence. There are a number of ways in which you can get involved in your local area. You can volunteer your help to good causes like park restorations by lending your expertise or even just a hand. You can get the most out of the opportunities by getting your child involved too. That way they can learn what it’s like to do a hard day’s graft and build new skills. We have teamed up with a private school in London to share 3 more reasons as to why you should be getting involved below.
Social Skills
Getting involved in the community can help your child to work on their social skills. They will have the chance to meet and talk to children other than the ones that they go to school with. The experience will show them what it’s like to create that first initial conversation and find common ground to build friendships upon.
Work Experience
The chance to gain work experience doesn’t come by often as children are in school for much of the day and have school work to do outside of that. Community work on the weekends and evenings can help them with this and best of all, they will be alongside you so you can keep an eye on them. It will look great on their CV and demonstrate competence to potential employers in the future.
Compassion
As mentioned before, community work involves doing things for those other than yourself which can help children to be selfless and more compassionate towards others. They can learn to put themselves in others’ shoes as they look into all the great causes the community is working to help.
