Winter Illuminations at Yorkshire Wildlife Park

Winter Illuminations at Yorkshire Wildlife Park is a popular event and we recently visited thanks to our best friends. We had such an amazing time and it is one of the most magical Christmas events in Yorkshire. The event is suitable for all ages and really gets you into the spirit of Christmas. We would definitely go again as we enjoyed it so much, especially Blake who was mesmerised by the light displays.

This was our first time visiting Yorkshire Wildlife Park, however we definitely want to visit again, especially during the day time to see the animals.

IMPORTANT: Day guests must exit the wildlife park at closing time and re-enter at their pre-booked Winter Illuminations time slot.

What is the Winter Illuminations at Yorkshire Wildlife Park?

The Winter Illuminations at Yorkshire Wildlife Park are a walking trail where you see a unique collection of beautiful lanterns and light displays. The trail takes you on an enchanting journey. On your journey you will head Under the Sea, to the Fairytale Kingdom, on Animal Adventures and so much more. Photos really don't do it justice, the displays are magical and huge with many of them being life size or bigger.

How long will it take to walk around the Winter Illuminations?
The trail is over 2.4 kilometres, it is a one way circular route. It is estimated to take about 90 minutes. This doesn't include stopping for food and drink. Also bear in mind that it may also take longer with little ones and if you are like me snapping lots of photos.

Where do I park?
Yorkshire Wildlife Park has a car park that is free to use for ticket holders. Simply navigate to DN9 3HQ and follow the signs. The Wildlife Park is then a short walk away. There is also disabled parking available.

Will I see the animals at Yorkshire Wildlife Park?
No this is not part of the Illuminations event. The only way to see the animals on your visit is to book  daytime tickets alongside your Winter Illuminations ticket and visit the park before it closes at 4pm.

Accessibility at Winter Illuminations
The Winter Illuminations trail is fully accessible for wheelchairs and pushchairs. The surface may be mildly uneven in certain areas but involves no steps or stairs. Yorkshire Wildlife Park also provide limited numbers of manual wheelchairs and mobility scooters for a small fee and must be pre-booked in advance.

Do I need to book in advance?
All tickets need to be purchased in advance; key dates sell out very quickly, so it's suggested to book sooner rather than later!

Please note: As this is a special event outside usual opening hours, tickets for the Winter Illuminations are not included with Annual Memberships.

What time does the event start?
The event runs on timed entry slots, these will take place every 15 minutes from 4pm. The Park will then close and the event will end at 10pm.

Is food and drink available at Winter Illuminations?
The cafe's throughout Yorkshire Wildlife Park will be open during the Winter Illuminations event. You can pick up festive food and drinks on your route through the park. Please bear in mind that it will most likely be very busy.

What should I wear?
As the event is outdoors you're bound to get chilly so definitely wrap up warm. I reccomend hats, gloves and scarves as well as a coat especially for children. Wearing suitable footwear is important too due to the amount of walking. So make sure that the shoes you wear are comfortable and sturdy.

Overall it's a fantastic event that you should at least visit once. I'm sure it's going to be an annual Christmas tradition for many families. The experience really is magical and enchanting and I've not seen anything like it before. Although the ticket prices aren't cheap they are 100% worth it when you factor in how much it must cost to set up. The Yorkshire Wildlife Park Winter Illuminations is an event that is sure to be remembered for years to come. I strongly recommend a visit so you can experience it for yourself!
