BENEFITS OF A LOW CARB DIET

Back in late 2019 I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes and I'm not going to lie I've found it really hard to get it under control. A low carb diet tends to be the best option to try and control glucose levels. Low carb isn't just suitable for those with type 2 diabetes in fact it has many health benefits for everyone.

Below I will share with you some of reasons a low carb diet has great health benefits:

Weight loss
Cutting carbs is one of the most effective ways to loose weight. It is one of the main reasons that people decide to go low carb. It’s also been proven that a low carb diet produces fewer feelings of hunger.

Prevention/management of type 2 diabetes
Maintaining stable blood glucose levels is important with type 2 diabetes. Low carb diets really help as carbohydrates have the biggest impact on blood sugar and insulin levels. Reducing the amount we eat of them each day in return reduces the amount of glucose entering the bloodstream.

Increased energy levels
On a low carb diet you may find that your energy levels improve. A carb heavy diet causes those blood sugar levels to fluctuate and your energy levels will be the same. Cutting down carbs gets your blood sugars stabilised preventing the rollercoaster effect.

Manages PCOS
PCOS (Polycystic Ovary Syndrome) is another condition I have. Going low carb can really help with managing the symptoms of this condition.

Minimising LDL (bad) cholesterol & preventing heart disease
People with bad cholesterol are more likely to have a heart attack. It turns out that low-carb diets increase the size of “bad” LDL particles while reducing the number of total LDL particles in your bloodstream.

There are other benefits of a low carb diet besides the ones I've mentioned above such as feeling less bloated, being less irritable and not craving sugar as often. Motivating family members to live healthier as well will benefit you all.
